In 1795, the Hudson’s Bay Company built Edmonton House (Fort Edmonton) along the North Saskatchewan River. It moved several times before it was rebuilt on the present site of the Alberta Legislature Building in 1830.
On this day in 1910 the HMS Niobe arrived in Halifax Harbour and became the first ship of the Royal Canadian Navy. The ship served in patrol duties at the beginning of the First World War. She was later damaged in the 1917 Halifax Explosion and was scrapped in the 1920s.
